Hey, music lovers! This week's Straight From My Speakers is going to take us back to the early 2000s with a song from Maroon 5's album, Songs About Jane. Not only have I been listening to this particular song a lot lately, but I've also been listening to a ton of Maroon 5. I have taken these last couple weeks to become familiar with all of Maroon 5's albums. I had a tough time choosing which song/era of Maroon 5 I wanted to highlight in my post. However, I finally picked "This Love" because I feel that the album Songs About Jane holds a special place in Maroon 5 fans' hearts. Um, "She Will Be Loved." DUH. "Sunday Morning." "This Love." Songs About Jane SCREAMS 2000s pop music. I remember hearing "She Will Be loved" in coffee houses, whether it was being played on the stereo being played as a cover by a musician playing at a coffee house (fun fact, you can find "She Will Be Loved" on my Spotify playlist called 2000s coffee house music). I also remember hearing "This Love" being played all the time in department stores...actually I was in Kohl's the other day and I'm pretty sure I heard "This Love" being played. And of course, I heard their music on the radio. How can you not stop and belt out the chorus "She Will Be Loved" when it's playing on the stereo? Also, I just want to talk briefly about the music video for "This Love" (which is attached to this post). OH. MY GOSH. 2000s POP MUSIC. The hairstyles, the clothes, the groove, the vibe, and REAL INSTRUMENTS. Yes, there was a time when Adam Levine's backup band got to actually play instruments. REAL INSTRUMENTS! Maroon 5 has aged well. The guys in the band have aged well (especially, ESPECIALLY Adam Levine has) and so has their music. Each album released by Maroon 5 sounds just as it should in that era of pop music. Songs About Jane. Yes, it sounds like an early 2000s album. Red Pill Blues (Maroon 5's latest studio album which was released late last year) sounds like it was released in 2017. Pop music is constantly changing, and Maroon 5 has done a great job of keeping up with the sound while staying true to themselves. Although their music today sounds a lot different compared to their earlier stuff, you still know that you're listening to Maroon 5. Although I must say that I'm a bigger fan of their older music, (my favorite album has to be It Won't Be Soon Before Long) but they still have some great stuff today. Honestly, "Sugar" is one of my all-time favorite Maroon 5 songs!
This has been Gracie Autumn's Straight From My Speakers. I hope you've enjoyed listening to "This Love" as much as I have! Until next time, happy listening!
