I had a Charlie and Chocolate factory 'I've got a golden ticket' moment over Christmas because I received TICKETS to see Frozen The Broadway Musical! So not only did I get to see a Broadway show on Saturday, but I also got to visit one of my most favorite cities. I did not have a lot of time to visit all my favorite spots, but I did check out the Lego store and see the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.
Anyways, my thoughts on Frozen on Broadway.
Stage: The stage design was absolutely beautiful! At some moments it truly looked like a page out of a storybook. The special effects were outstanding! I really believed that Elsa was shooting ice out of her hands. The puppetry was super cool, too! The puppet they had for Sven was on the level of Lion King The Broadway Musical.
Music: The pit was AMAZING. Honestly, it was one of the best orchestras I've ever heard. Their phrasing and musicality were like how our drinking water should be: clear and clean. One thing that did make me really sad was that the song Frozen Heart was taken out of the play. It is one of my favorite songs from Frozen, and I'm heartbroken that it was not in the show. I will say, I was pretty impressed with the songs added to the play. The first song that the show starts out with called Let the Sun Shine was just as good as any of the original songs in the film. There were a couple songs that did feel like 'this is Broadway, we need to sing a song!' But for the most part, I was really impressed with the music. And I'm really picky about Broadway adding songs...and I'm still salty about them taking Frozen Heart out of the show.
Cast: The cast was on point! Even the kids in the show were AMAZING. It's actually kind of scary seeing kids performing on stage with the poise and talent of a groomed actor or actress...I'm like 'uhhh are you even human?' The icing on the cake was that I got to meet the actors who played Kristoff and Prince Hans. My heart!!!
So, should you see Frozen The Musical on Broadway? Absolutely! If you want more information about the show, my friend Becky from Disney in Your Day, wrote a super blog post about it when it first came to Broadway. Click here to check it out!
