STRAIGHT FROM MY SPEAKERS: Kinnaris Quintet

I'm back with another Straight From My Speakers post! I have to give Spotify a shoutout for helping me find out about this amazing band from Glasgow. I've been listening to Kinnaris Quintet's album Free One non-stop for the last week. It's fresh, innovative, and lively. Kinnaris Quintet is compiled of three fiddles, mandolin, and guitar. Although their music is rooted in the Scottish and Irish traditions, the women in this band are not afraid to make these tunes their own by embracing other styles of music such as Classical and Bluegrass. The band also mixes in original compositions. Their sound is incredibly unique, yet still very traditional. Not only do I love the band's take on traditional music, but I also love how their arrangements keep you on your toes. One moment a song is sweet-sounding and filled with intricate parts, and the next second it has a forceful drive that will have you head-banging. I LOVE IT! Be sure to take a listen to their album online. You can also purchase a copy of Kinnaris Quintet's album off their website. Happy Listening! -Gracie Autumn
