STRAIGHT FROM MY SPEAKERS: PODCAST EDITION

Hi everyone! I hope you all are staying safe out there. Although we all might be getting 'cabin fever,' there are a lot of great things we can do to keep our minds sharp. Something that I LOVE to do is to listen to podcasts. Since we all have a lot more time to listen to them, I thought I'd share some of my favorite podcasts:

1. The Office Ladies: If you're a fan of The Office, then you'll love this podcast featuring Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly) and Angelina Kinsey (Angelina Martin). They reminisce about being on The Office, and share fun facts about the cast and filming the show. Fun fact: these office ladies are best friends in real life! It's worth a listen. You can find the show on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Average length - 40 minutes.

2. Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness: YAS QUEENS. I'm in love with this podcast. Jonathan Van Ness from the hit Netflix series Queer Eye has a podcast, and it's great! Each week, Jonathan interviews experts in their respective fields. From early American history, to politics, to culture, you'll learn something new about topics you never knew you were curious about! It's really fun to listen to. Not too long ago, he had Nicola Coughlan (she plays Clare Devlin on the show Derry Girls). I highly suggest that episode if you're a Derry Girls fan. Average length: 40 minutes.

3. Fresh Air: NPR: How could I NOT feature this podcast? Terry Gross is a hero. I picture all the neurons in my brain lighting up as I listen to this show. There are so many fascinating topics covered on Fresh Air. This is a great podcast to listen to while driving, or working from home. NPR sounds good wherever you are. Typically I listen to it on the radio, but you can also find it on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and NPR's website. Average length: 50 minutes.

4. Disney Food Blog: If you love Mickey Mouse and all things Disney, listen to this podcast! In this dark age where Disney parks are closed, we all need a little magic in our lives. AJ is incredibly savvy when it comes to Disney Park knowledge. From which restaurants you should be eating at to how you can plan a last-minute Disney trip, AJ covers it all! Whether you're planning a trip to a Disney Park, or just want to learn some fun Disney trivia, this is super fun to listen to! I listen to it on youtube. Average length: 10-25 minutes.

5. The BBC Breakfast Show with Greg James: I usually start my day with this podcast. I listen to the podcast version on Spotify, which just plays the highlights. However, if I have time, I'll listen to the entire show on the BBC1 Radio app (I like to listen to it on the radio app because it includes all the top radio hits). British people tend to get all the cool music before we do so I've found some AMAZING music just by listening to this show. Plus, Greg James is super smart and engaging, and it's nice to start the day by listening to his voice. You can listen to this show on the BBC iPlayer Radio app, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify. Average length: 20 minutes (The BBC iPlayer radio app features the whole show which I mentioned earlier).

6. Song Exploder: This is such a freaking cool podcast, which I heard about from my brother, Peter. On this dope podcast, musicians take apart their songs, piece by piece, and tell the story of how they were made. This podcast has featured brilliant musicians including Lorde, Blood Orange, Lin-Manuel Miranda, KT Tunstall, and many, many more. This podcast can be found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and the Song Exploder website

Average Length: 20 minutes

7. Fire Draw Near: This is the podcast I listen to when I'm feeling particularly nerdy and want to go down the rabbit hole of Irish Music. Ian Lynch from the band Lankum shares different traditional Irish songs and tunes and gives a little history on them. Definitely worth a listen! I listen to it on Dublin Digital Radio. Average length: 40 min - 1 hour.

8. The Jeff Cavins Show: This is a Catholic podcast. If you're looking for something spiritual to listen to, this is a great podcast! Jeff offers a lot of great insight and wisdom on scripture, church teachings, and life in general. I just listened to a great episode on Lent. Jeff Cavins is also a major Bob Dylan fan, so I know I can trust him. You can find this podcast on Apple Podcasts. Average length: 40 minutes.

9. Tea with Tolkien: This is another wonderful faith-based podcast that I love. Created by Kaitlyn Facista, Tea with Tolkien is charming, insightful, and for the 'Hobbit at Heart' (as Kaitlyn would say). This podcast makes you feel as if you're drinking tea in the shire. Kaitlyn has a lovely voice and it's very relaxing to listen to. Kaityln offers discussion questions throughout her episodes, so I suggest inviting a fellow LOTR lover to listen to it so you can discuss the podcast. You can listen to it on Apple Podcasts or on the Tea with Tolkien website. Average length: 20 - 50 minutes.

10. The Olympic Channel Podcast: I'm all about the Olympics. When the Olympics come on, I do not leave my house for two weeks (so being quarantined should not be too hard for me). Right now, I'm listening to an episode called 'Top Figure Skaters on haters, trolls, relationships, and respect.' What's not to love? I highly suggest checking it out. I listen to it on Apple Podcasts. Average length: 20-30 minutes.

11. The After Dinner Mint Show with Gracie Autumn: Yeah, I'm sharing my show. My show is about life so I basically cover every topic out there: Star Wars, Disney, Music, travel, food, Christmas shopping, storytelling, all that good stuff. I have a different special guest on each show, so it keeps things unique and different. You can find my show on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and my website. Average length: 20 minutes - 1 hour (depending on how long my guests wants to chat!!) Enjoy!

I hope you find at least one podcast to check out! Let me know if you give any of these a try or if you've heard of any of them!

Happy listening,

-Gracie Autumn
